A New Beginning for British Families with Young Children
As a British mum of two toddlers, I often find myself reflecting on the kind of environment I want my children to grow up in. The current situation in the UK, with its fast-paced lifestyle and increasing socials issues, sometimes feels a little overwhelming. In fact, I actually find myself yearning for a change—a place where my family can enjoy a more relaxed pace of life, with a better environment for my family and where we can truly feel at home.
Then, more or less by accident, I came across Malaysia My Second Home. This
MM2H visa, as it's also called, may well be the pathway to a new beginning that I envisage. It certainly seems to tick all the right boxes.
Appeal of Malaysia for Families
One of the most attractive aspects of Malaysia is its warm and welcoming culture and emphasis on family values. The diverse communities, friendly locals and the wide use of English make it an easy transition for British families. For my husband and me, it's reassuring to know that our children will grow up in an environment where they can easily adapt, make friends and immerse themselves in a peaceful multicultural society.
Moreover, the presence of the ever-expanding British expat community inMalaysia means that we wouldn't be starting from scratch. After all, we'd have access to a good-sized support network of like-minded individuals who've already made the move and can offer valuable advice as we settle into our new life.
Financial and Lifestyle Benefits
But it's the financial benefits of the MM2H visa that we find particularly compelling. With the current exchange rate with the Malaysia Ringgit in favour of the Pound, our savings would stretch by up to a factor of 5 in Malaysia—courtesy of the currency multiplier effect. Add to that, the way Malaysia's cost of living is much lower compared to the UK, and it becomes clear that we'd be able to upgrade to a very comfortable lifestyle indeed.
Since the cost of homes, our overheads, supermarkets and transport would be so mucht lower in Malaysia, we'd easily be able to afford nice extras like a domestic helper, private club membership, eating out etc. Better yet, we'd have more time to focus on what really matters—living happy lives and raising our children in a nurturing environment.
Incidentally, another major advantage is the tax-free status of foreign income under MM2H. For my husband, who has the option to work remotely, this is nothing short of a game-changer. With MM2H, we could continue to earn from the UK whilst enjoying the financial benefits that come with living in Malaysia. Frankly speaking, the idea of having more disposable income to invest in our children's education and future is incredibly appealing.
Education and Healthcare: Priorities for Young Families
Whilst researching MM2H, we've also learned that when it comes to our children's education, Malaysia offers a wide range of options, including international schools that follow the British education system. Turns out the schools there are well-regarded for their high standards and their familiar educational framework ensures that our children would receive quality education, one that'll prepare them for the future, whether they choose to return to the UK or pursue opportunities elsewhere.
For obvious reasons, healthcare is another crucial factor for us. It so happens that Malaysia is known for its excellent healthcare system, with modern facilities and highly qualified medical professionals. But their healthcare, as renowned as it is, is also more reasonable in cost, certainly compared to the UK. And let's be honest, having access to top-notch medical care without the long waiting times is a huge relief, especially with two young children in the picture.
Allure of Malaysia's Natural Beauty
Aside from the practical benefits above, the sheer beauty of Malaysia is something else that draws me in. I've always dreamt of raising my children in a place where they can enjoy the great outdoors, away from the urban sprawl. Malaysia's rainforests, lovely beaches and other stunning landscapes provide the perfect backdrop for family fun and weekend getaways. Imagine spending weekends exploring the sun-kissed islands, hiking through nature, or simply enjoying a day at the beach—all without doubt activities that'll enrich our children's lives and create lasting memories.
Harmonious Society
One aspect of Malaysia that touches a nerve with me is the social cohesion we hear so much about. Despite its diverse population, Malaysia is a tolerant society, reflected, amongst other things, by the numerous different religions and places of worhship that coexist side by side. This sense of unity is something I want my children to experience and learn from. It's quite the contrast to what we've been experiencing back home. But MM2H gives me hope that my children can grow up in a society that values inclusivity and mutual respect.
New Chapter Awaits
We've concluded that MM2H presents an exciting opportunity for us to start a new chapter in our lives. The prospect of living in a vibrant, multicultural society where we can truly thrive is something I find increasingly difficult to resist.
As we continue our research and may soon decide to begin the application process, I can't help but feel optimistic about the future. Malaysia could very well be the perfect place for our family to call home. And who knows? Perhaps other British families will find themselves as captivated by the possibilities of MM2H as we have.
